This pub dates back to at least 1633,
when it was known to be a "cider house"
with an adjoining village
slaughterhouse. It was also one of the
first premises to be recorded under the
1727 Licensing Act. The three rooms
feature exposed stone walls and wooden
beams, with an open fire in each. In
summer the fires are replaced by lighted
candles. The suntrap front garden offers
fine views over the Golden Valley.
Children are welcome and there are even
children's books available. There is a
modern 12-bedroom hotel annexe with
ample car parking.
