The pub celebrated its 400th birthday in
2001 and is located in superb walking
country close to Woodchester mansion. It
offers three ever changing guest ales.
An Irish beer festival coincides with
the National Hunt Festival at Cheltenham
in March and an anti-Beaujolais promotes
English beer and food. Good value food
is served in a separate restaurant area.
A new extension has added a lounge area,
wheelchair access and a new toilet
block. Dog friendly. The pub is a
regular venue for the Stroud Morris Men.

Pretty, whitewashed, recently
refurbished 17th-century cottage inn, in
old Roman village. The pub has two
elegant bars. This lively, friendly
local attracts people from miles around
to sample its ales and its imaginative,
freshly-cooked meals. The reasonably
priced menu can contain game terrine
with onion marmalade and salmon and dill
fishcakes with caper mayonnaise (no food
Sunday evening). The dining area has a
magnificent open fireplace with a log
fire. The pub has a patio garden with
stunning views over a typical Cotswold
valley. Entertainment includes quiz
night (Monday), music night (Tuesday)
featuring folk, jazz or blues and
regular race nights for charity. Closed
Monday lunchtime.
