Popular 15th century half-timbered Grade
II two-bar pub, just off Tewkesbury
Cross. The entrance to the public bar is
from the street, whilst the Lounge Bar
is accessed from one of Tewkesbury's
many alleyways. At the rear, a barn,
which is believed to be the oldest
non-ecclesiastical building in this
historic town, is used for dining in the
summer and serves as a meeting room.
Good value food is served daily except
Mondays. Cider is also available. The
pub is reputed to have a resident ghost.
Live music is performed on Saturday
evenings. Buses to Cheltenham and
Gloucester stop close by. The pub is
almost next door to Tewkesbury Abbey,
another excellent reason to visit the
town.

bar, with roaring fire, leads to a cosy
rear dining area, the traditional cellar

music every Sunday evening. The pub gets
busy at lunchtime with visitors to this
historic town.

The oldest inn in Gloucestershire,
dating from 1308. It was refurbished in
1999 and features many separate rambling
bar areas, one boasting leatherwork on
the ceiling that dates to the 17th
century. Part of the building was
originally the stables. The inn's front
door is reputedly the second oldest in
the area. Note the intriguing old
photographs of Tewkesbury. Reports
suggest a resident ghost. A pleasant
terrace patio overlooks the garden and
the river Avon (moorings available).

with a pool table one end and a
dartboard at the other. Family-run, it
serves the best value pint in town from
an ever-changing beer list, plus three
real ciders (Thatchers & Moles Black
Rat). Close to Tewkesbury Marina, it is
popular with boaters. It fields crib,
darts, pool and skittles teams. The
White Bear reopened in December 2007
after the infamous floods of July.
Before 2005 the White Bear was the home
of CAMRA's Tewkesbury winter ale
festival.
