Large family operated Free House beside
the Gloucester-Sharpness canal near to
the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. The
building started as a small-holding in
the 1700s, but in the early 1800's when
the canal was being dug by hand by
'retired' Irish Navigator Soldiers it
attained a licence, remaining as a beer
and cider house until the 1950's when it
became fully licensed. The Shepherd's
Patch refers to the high ground on which
sheep used to be kept in times of flood.
Popular for bar meals - separate
restaurant. Guest ales from local
brewers complement up to nines ciders
and perries. Family room. Accommodation
in modern lodge alongside. Camp site at
rear. Winner of local CAMRA awards for
seven consecutive years.
