Beautifully restored old pub, a roadside
inn that has its roots in the 18th
century and has changed little over the
last 60 years. The tiny bar is virtually
unchanged and strictly no food, but
leads to a smart dining room. The menu
is deservedly popular and the portions
generous (booking advisable). A small
tap room is created by two venerable
curving settles around a wood-burning
stove, and steps down lead to a snug and
then to an old cellar, available for
functions. The garden has a well and the
remains of a smithy. The main road has
moved a few yards, leaving the old Ermin
Street empty if not exactly quiet. A
CAMRA National Inventory of Heritage
pub.
